In the US, rugby has six divisions. 8U (TOUCH), 10U (TACKLE PREP), 12U (MSJV), 14U (MSVAR), 16U (JSJV), and 19U (HSVAR). In Georgia, ruggers start tackling at the 10U division.

Rugby coaches must pass yearly proficiency tests proving they understand the Laws of the Game as well as pass Rugby Safety training with USA Rugby. All of our coaches must pass a national background check and take yearly SafeSport training. All tackle teams have at least one L1 coach. L1 coaches must go through additional training with a USA Rugby credentialled educator proving they understand how to coach a rugby tackle correctly and safely.

Rugby is played year-round with 15s in the spring and 7s in the fall and summer. We typically start practicing for 7s in September, and start practicing for 15s in December. Our season runs from February – May depending on the age group and travel opportunities.

Practice times and location vary based on the club and division. Generally speaking, they are twice a week for 1.5 to two hours. Games are usually played on Saturdays, with an occasional Friday night or Sunday afternoon. Tournament schedules are based on location and teams participating.

YES! We only want to borrow you during your off-season.

ABSOLUTELY! Everyone can play – no experience necessary. Coaches will teach you how to play, and other players work with you to become the best rugby player you can be.

The only required equipment for rugby is a mouth guard and cleats (soccer or football cleats work just fine). You can get additional equipment like a scrum cap or chest pad. Just remember, you must use World Rugby approved equipment as these meet the safety requirements for our sport. Soft helmets and chest pads used in other sports are not approved.
